Maksim Chmerkovskiy has been competing on Dancing With The Stars since Season 2, when he finished in sixth place with actress Tia Carrere.

Maks' best finish was in Season 5, when he and singer Mel B finished runner-up to pro Julianne Hough and race car driver Helio Castroneves. He was bummed about the second-place finish and hinted he might not return to the show. But then he did.

Maksim owns several dance studios in the New York City area, and is involved in dance-related non-profit work. He's won numerous dance competitions, particularly in the Latin style.

Maksim and fellow DWTS pro Karina Smirnoff, with whom he has also partnered professionally, announced their engagement in late 2008. He was partnered with Denise Richards for Season 8 of Dancing With The Stars.
