We're loving this talented lady. Debi Mazar, foremost, is authentic. She's no BS, she doesn't fluff and flatter or brag (except sarcastically). She's real. What a refreshing personality she is!!!
Her chatter is ultimately fascinating and charming, if non-stop. Rather than irritating us, she makes us laugh for all her light and self-deprecating playfulness.
Her character acting credits are too numerous to list here, but most folk (those away from Disney teen shows) recognize her and remember her truly fine performances. She plays the edgy and faux-tough New Yorker girl, with a pitch perfect accent when needed. She's very good at it.
She loves to dance, but like many, she misses the wild abandon of dancing the clubs compared to the "proper" ballroom dancing she signed on for. But she's fit, funny, and willing to work very hard at it. So she's my kind of "Star" -- the kind who should go far.

Do Politicians Make Good "Stars" for Dancing?

Just putting out my observation that TDelay ought be the VERY LAST politician invited on to DWTS. Why? Because they come with a built-in voter base that reflects the very same public tensions that we come to Dancing to forget. The voting then becomes totally gerryrigged and a dishonorable old Fudd will last longer than someone who is charming -- perhaps Michael L, perhaps dorky Chuck L, likely one of the women.
GET SERIOUS Conrad Green! Take your sensationalism elsewhere and get back to the basics of Dancing!!!

Give me a sultry dark tango any day to pique my interest again in dancing -- so little of real dancing appears on DWTS, ya' know? Maksim and Debi's rendition of Roxanne aimed at high theatre compared to the other tango-ists and -istas. God Bless Maks for staying true to the original setting and meaning of the dance -- ***** and trick passionately engaged in love/hate.
Unfortunately, most of that likely went over the heads of all but the center judge, and most of the voting audience who always prefer blatant whoring to artistic symbolisms. The dance surely deserved better than straight 7's -- but I'm convinced the scores are pre-ordained by the producers and have quit paying any attention to the judging altogether.
LOVED this dance. LOVED Debi's spot-on and painful rendition. And of course, LOVED Maks who shines best in these darkly sensual dances. WHOOOO EEE THanks Debi and Maks for great dancing!! All 8's in my book.

She does a great job finding something positive to say even when someone doesn't do well." ...kind of like our Paula Abdul of DWTS. lol

"I love the Quickstep, especially when it looks effortless. You know it is hard to do well, but when it is done well it is like the pair is floating across the floor. A joy to watch." I was wondering about that, how hard the quickstep must be. They make it look like they're just bouncing weightlessly around the floor, but it has to be one of the hardest dances.

It's often said of Mark that he cannot resist overdancing next to a truly green partner in an effort to distract attention from his partner's weaknesses. His overly expressive use of his face is cited as a similar ploy. Is Mark deliberately using distraction, or just dancing? What's you view.

Actually, I think that many of the pro dancers have been guilty of this (over dancing). I think that they try to show what their partner is capable of doing and then they try to enhance it. These teams are not what you would call equal parings, so they try to embellish sometimes. I don't think there is anything wrong with it though. If the pro partner dropped their expertise to the level of their partner, then some dances would be very boring. Case in point...Master P. If not for Ashley DelGrosso actually doing some dancing, we would have watched two people walking around the dance floor.

ABC and BBC have profited immensely from the highly popular Dancing With the Stars in the past, although that interest is waning as the show drifts further and further from it's central attraction. World wide, other countries DWTS shows give evidence of the viewer appeal that dance has in the lives of people everywhere. However, as the dancing seasons have progressed in the US, ABC has incrementally morphed the original show into less and less emphasis upon the dancing and more time on extraneous diversions: .. the judges' histrionics and berating of the pro's, .. special appearances by singers that portray only a few seconds of dancing, .. snide and humiliating "comedy" routines, and .. wildly disparate dance troups as far afield from the ballroom style as can be found. Results Nights have become real yawners with inexplicable filler acts. Further, the producers tinker with all sorts of competitive gimmicks and have added many dance types which their champion professionals have not themselves learned or taught before. By deduction, we surmise that the the producers do not seek to attract adult audience viewers. The show has become a mockery in the trade, a standing joke. And yet . . . The viewer favorites on the show have been the professional dancers and the invited appearances of highly acclaimed ballroom champions from around the world. Each season's "pro dances" are the highlights of the season watched and rewatched thousands of times on you tube. Fan sites all over the web attest to viewer fascination with the professional dancers. These "pro's" have become attractive celebrities in their own rights everywhere but at ABC. Americans have a keen sense of fairness in their hearts. It would appear to me that the decline in viewership of DWTS correlates perfectly with the decline in opportunities to watch the professionals perform so beautifully on the show.

If you get to know him, you all will. Maksim's story is fascinating. He came to the US as a youth, having begun dance training in Ukraine at age four. Maks suffered a leg-shattering ski accident at about 14 years old, and was told he would not walk normally and never dance again. He showed his strong personal determination by proving the docs wrong and soon was winning competitions again.
Maksim competed internationally with great success until he decided to join DWTS to help promote ballroom dance through American TV. His appearances for DWTS have all been aimed at promoting ballroom dance in the USA as a healthful sport.
His ABC persona is only a defensive facade, I fear. Maksim is all heart and caring and talent behind the scenes. Yes, he's guilty of blunt statements that sometimes seem politically incorrect. On the other hand, he doesn't deceive anyone . . . he is totally honest and authentic, admirable in the la-la land of US entertainment.
Maksim is no rock star, by choice. He is a dancer, because he loves to dance. He is a businessman, promoting dance in general and his own studios in particular. He also is a dazzling showman and choreographer for ballroom dance shows. His productions range from intensely artistic to light comedy.
Don't just buy that phony persona that ABC has built for Maks. Take Tom Bergeron's assessment to heart, "Maks is tough on the outside but inside he's a marshmallow." Perhaps this fact is why he was chosen one of America's Most Eligible Bachelors by People magazine.
There is so much to love about Maksim . . .

It's hard to avoid the fact that one of the "Ballas crowd" gets assigned the highest potential dancers each season and has won so many times since they were brought in. Do you see bias in this fact, or just coincidence? (BTW, it doesn't appear true in Season 9.)

OMG Most of the viewing audience likely did not understand the music or the stylistic dancing Maks choreographed to fit it. Debi was far more composed and gorgeous without the heavyhanded makeup from week l. Her dancing was much improved, but still in need of improvement -- apropos of an amateur at Week Two.
However, the show was liberally sprinkled with selective negative clips of just the tense (not the happy) moments from their practices. The audience was set up to be angry at Maks for "making Debi cry" when the truth of the situation was totally not known. Debi's hilarious personality was masked entirely by the stern tango face, and once again, she did not reveal her true nature for the voting public. I swear that some celebs are set up to fail on a schedule to meet the preordained outcome ABC wants. I hope Debi and Maks let their joy for dancing just bust out next week -- and the voters respond to the more true partnership of hard work and great fun. Let the samba roll . . . . .

Have you seen any of the interview clips of Debi Mazar as herself? This is one funny, intelligent, and sassy lady. She is so much fun to watch with Maksim! They have constant chatter going on -- outside of the practices, of course.
Week One found her very nervous and thinking far too much about her routine -- an affliction common in Week One and Two. She was darling and performed her cha cha much better than the scores indicated, compared to subsequent dances and scores.
